URBAN GOSPEL MUSIC is SUFFERING

                The gospel industry is slacking in that its lacking Urban artists. Its quite understandable because Gospel Labels no longer have the resources to develop artists but require an artist that posses the whole package before getting signed. But what this label's tend to overlook is that there are very many young talented independent artists who when given a chance,with the proper push,development and resource's can have established career's.
                 Currently,most artists recently signed to Gospel Labels,were either some part of a famous Gospel Group or sang back up or solo spots for established artists.Many groups are just recycling their background singers and that is why,many artists who are currently being released, Seem to conform to the typical Gospel Sound yet so many talented independent artists are remaining unsigned.GOSPEL LABELS A&R's need to do a much better job because we cant have 6 out of 10 artist on Gospel Billboard top #10 sounding the same!!!
                   Remember the early 2000's when Annointed,Winans Phase 2,Trinitee 5:7, MaryMary, Virtue, Kierra Sheard ,Natalie Wilson,Out of Eden and many other artists were coming out and their music sky-rocketed the Mainstream/Secular Charts?? That was a great time in Gospel Music...They all had a unique signature sound, were branded very well and their labels really gave their careers the push  they needed. Gospel artists were a doing Collabo's with successful Secular/Mainstream artist's and a lot of now secular artist's like Kelly Price,Michelle Williams etc even tried their hand in Gospel Music. Warryn Campbell the producer, J-moss, Rodney Jerkins, La-Shawn Daniels and other main stream producers were really putting their spin in GOSPEL MUSIC but do we see secular producers looking to work with GOSPEL ARTISTS anymore??? CRICKETS!!!!
                And there are GOSPEL RAP artists who are selling a lot of Units but is GOSPEL RADIO giving airplay to them? The likes of Lecrae, Trip Lee, Tedashi, Da Truth and many more.And why cant Gospel artists collaborate with these artists when making ballads.....anyway it makes sense since we dont have any URBAN GOSPEL ARTISTS that are getting mainstream success except MaryMary who are disbanding(????,another whole topic).
              I love Sunday Best Products,those ladies and gentle men can sang men, but i wont say that ive had a contestant that put out an album and i was BLOOOOOOWN AWAY and be like now this here, is the business.But this has been a great plattform for new gospel artist's to get a show-case. Alexis Spight, season 4 runner up. seems to have an urban vibe to her tracks and i like what ive heard so far but not really cross over material.

             I believe good quality produced GOSPEL MUSIC should compete with Mainstream music in the charts yes,rn&b,soul,pop etc. A few gospel acts like MaryMary and Kirk Franklin have done it before. Remember you are an artist first then a gospel artist because the gospel is already your element,that's the reason why you sing. NEVERTHELESS, i believe GOD is raising a new generation of GOSPEL ARTISTS that will shake the top #200 and hot #100 mainstream charts. Yes i declare it,i see it and i cant wait for it. With that being said, lets continue supporting Gospel Music!!!

SONG WRITING TIP 2

-LISTEN,LISTEN and LISTEN to music,i mean all types of music. I have listened to songs outside my genre of choice and trust me i get away with something either, lyrically, vocally or learning different song arrangements.
-For example ive listened to some country and some hard core rap which is completely off my choice of music but ive seen the different elements which song-writers and artists across the different genres of music use to create a rich dynamic sound. By listening to some rap artists ive been able to expand my writing vocabulary,coz i was like 'if Lil Wayne can sing about that(guy has the best hooks) i can as well write this or if Taylor Swift (Shes amazing) can sing about this,then maybe my lyrics aint CORNY at all (Trust me you will always feel this from time to time)!!

SONG WRITING TIPS 1

Within  the past 3 year's i have penned a couple of songs both Gospel and Mainstream and its been an interesting journey. The most interesting thing is that most songs never came when i was in an active song writing session but rather when i was either at the airport,car,school or some-where in public and somebody said something or i read a writing on a bill-board and BOOM a song with melodies and words came right away.
-In this scenario's i usually pull out my phone as quick as i can and immediately start recording in the lowest voice possible when in public or type the lyrics on my phone. There are times when i haven't had my phone with me and i keep singing the song to myself hoping it wont let go and in an hour,i cant remember a word let alone the rhythm.... and this is why a song writer should have their RECORDER AT ALL TIMES.

Ive been so pissed at myself for letting the best of songs disappear into the blessed atmosphere because i didn't have my Freakin Phone to record!!!

IM BACK

I know its been a MIGHTY LONG TIME since i shared anything on this blog,COLLEGE LIFE,WORK etc......Well i'll just say IM BACK!!!I reviewed a lot of music in the past and this time i will do the same and ALSO take you through my journey as a song-writer and artist !!! I would love for song-writers and artists to share their ideas and tips on how to break into the industry and be a successful songwriter and artist!

Tye Tribett New single "FRESH" - Review

Tye Tribett has released a new single titled "Fresh" from his album which will be released in late October. If you already have listened to the single,its a big departure from the usual style of music which he used before but if you all know he had in the recent past announced that he underwent through a Fresh  transition both spiritually and musically which even lead to the dissolving of his long time group G.A aka Greater Anointing.
                       The new song fresh,let me just inform you in advance, is heavily washed out with auto-tones and heavy instrumentation but after listening to it for about the fourth time,i started to like it #honestthought. I sampled a bunch of reviews for the single and it seems it hasn't rubbed very well with some folk especially fans of traditional gospel music but its gaining popularity within the younger generation and gospel DJ's who are now spinning the song in gospel joints. I cant wait to listen to the whole album and see whether the rest of the songs will also be a departure from his previous style. Well, KUDOS to Tye Tribett for being one of the few gospel artist's to boldly re-invent their music style.

BRITTNEY WRIGHT releases her debut album "The Beginning"

One of the Newest female gospel sensations Brittney Wright has released her CD titled "The Beginning" which is now available on Amazon and  itunes. I have sampled a few of the songs and soo far i am really impressed. My favorite jam soo far is "Clap your Hands" which is an up-tempo Praise song. Her first single to be released by her label Emtro Gospel was "I Win" which received heavy Radio Play.The Alabama Native is currently one of the worship leaders at Jamal Bryant's Church where she continues to grow her gift.

NEW GOSPEL MUSIC

I usually get excited during this last quarter of the year when many gospel artists drop their first singles and albums.So far James fortune and Fiya have released their single "i believe",Tye Tribett "Fresh",Jai,21:03 "Incredible" and we have seen very many artists like Yanna Crawley (YAAAAY),De Wayne Woods,Brittney Wright, Israel Houghton, Lowell Pye and Vashawn Mitchell release their albums.So far i wont hide,i am so in love with Yanna Crawley's CD release and i really hope that in the coming weeks,it will make its red carpet entrance into the Billboard charts because this is one stellar album.Very soon,i am going to make an article on why we need more artists like Yanna in the gospel  music scene which is currently..........oh well.
                            I am also looking forward to the MaryMary's single release which is in November this year.As u guys know,this ladies music is so dope,and other artists are fully aware of this,as one fairly successful gospel artist recently tweeted asking the Mary's whether they could release their music in 2015 so that other artists can get a chance to be famous...HILARIOUS!.
Anyway,for real,this ladies are very authentic,very versatile and somewhat unpredictable,well i cant wait to see what they will offer this time.Kirk Franklin started working on his album this summer whose release date is still unknown but i really hope its around the the first quarter of the year(I REALLY MISS HIM) but he recently featured in Israel Houghtons album which was released today the 31st AUGUST.I haven't listened to it yet,but i sure will and hopefully write a review.
